Association of Flight Attendants-CWA Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Today, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, representing thousands of Michiganders across 20 airlines, endorsed Jocelyn Benson in the race for Governor of Michigan.

“I’ll always stand with workers – and that includes the flight attendants who call Michigan home,” said Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. “I’m grateful for the support of the Association of Flight Attendants in my campaign to represent their interests. As Governor, I’ll fight to ensure that flight attendants who lost their union representation in the 2010 Northwest/Delta merger get the resources and support they need to organize again. Because unions built the middle class in Michigan, and whether you’re flying, building cars, or stocking shelves, I’ll always defend your right to organize and be heard.”

Jocelyn seeks opportunities to help workers win strong contracts and take home our fair share of the profits we generate with our labor. She does this because she’s running to do the job for the people and she knows that when workers are strong participants in the economy, Michigan is strong,” said International President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA Sara Nelson. “Jocelyn is not only a fighter, she is a personal friend who always has my back. She’s the kind of friend we need more of in leadership. She’s energetic, empathetic, and encouraging. And she knows that we can solve any problem together.”

This announcement is the second labor union endorsement for Secretary Benson’s gubernatorial campaign.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) is the flight attendant union organized by flight attendants for flight attendants.  AFA represents over 50,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines, serving as a voice for flight attendants at their workplace, in the industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill. Simply put, the goal of flight attendants who become part of AFA-CWA is to negotiate better pay, benefits, working conditions and work rules at their airline, and to improve their safety on the job.
