State Rep. Emily Dievendorf, Ann Arbor Mayor, Dozens of Local Leaders Across Michigan Endorse Jocelyn Benson for Governor
Following a two week statewide tour to talk with Michiganders about her plans to make sure everyone can afford a home, students have a world class education, and Michiganders don’t have to choose between paying their light bill or paying for groceries, Jocelyn Benson received a flurry of endorsements from local leaders across the state. Endorsements include State Rep. Emily Dievendorf, the Mayors of Ann Arbor, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Highland Park, and Cadillac, county commissioners, and city council members from across the state in a show of strong, grassroots support.
These local electeds know firsthand what’s at stake: our kids’ education, access to affordable housing, and ensuring Michigan has a governor who will stand up to any threats to our rights and freedoms, whether from Washington, D.C. or Lansing.
“I’m incredibly excited to support Secretary Benson — not only because she has a proven track record of running and winning statewide – but she’s also proven that she can deliver for people across our state,” said Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor. “Residents in Ann Arbor are looking for someone who can take on the extremists that will try to drag us backwards. I know they can count on the Secretary because she’s proven she can get things done as Secretary of State. I look forward to working with her to tackle Michigan’s biggest issues when she is our next governor.”
“When I think about the next person to lead our state forward through the next decade, there’s no one better than Jocelyn Benson,” said Oak Park Mayor Marian McClellan. “She took on Donald Trump at a time when it was terrifying for her and her family and modernized the Secretary of State’s office – saving people time and money while tackling a big project that none of her predecessors wanted to take on. I know if we want to build real, people-driven power here in Oak Park and across the Detroit Metro area, we need leaders who won’t bend to corporations and put the highest bidder over the people. We need Jocelyn – a leader with the experience and moral courage to transform Michigan.”
“Jocelyn Benson is the leader Michigan – especially rural folks – need as our governor. She has the tenacity to stand up to anyone willing to rip away our rights and that’s who we need in Lansing,” said Cadillac Mayor Tiyi Schipper. “There’s more work to be done to make Michigan the best place to raise your kids and get a job and stay. Jocelyn has real plans to make sure everyone can stay safe and nearby their loved ones, to bring new people to our state and make it a national beacon for protecting rights, and so much more. I’m proud to endorse her.”
