Majority of Teamsters Members Endorse Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Five of the ten affiliated locals representing a majority of Teamsters in Michigan announced their support today

Today, half of the affiliated Teamsters locals from Detroit to Grand Rapids endorsed Jocelyn Benson for Governor. Teamster Locals 406, 243, 283, 1038, and 247 who represent nurses, truck drivers, package deliverers, public employees, and so many more across the state are proud to stand with Jocelyn Benson and her vision to build an economy that works for the people, not the powerful.

“Mike Duggan is lying, which is clearly a core component of his campaign. Teamsters aren’t messing around with the anti-worker, corporate-owned Mayor of Detroit.  Mike “Look around — it’s not the billionaires or dark money lobbyists who are backing Mike Duggan’s campaign for governor, it’s truck drivers, nurses, mechanics, teachers, warehouse workers, and first responders — the people who clock in every day and hold this state together. We’re the engine behind Michigan’s economy, and it’s about damn time we had someone in the governor’s office who understands that,” said Teamsters Local 406 Business Agent Tom Sidebotham. “Jocelyn Benson doesn’t just talk about supporting working people,  she listens, she shows up, and she delivers. That’s why, on behalf of the hardworking members of Teamsters Local 406, we’re proud to endorse her for governor. She’s proven she’s on our side, and we’re ready to fight to put her in office.”

“Michigan’s economy runs on the backs of working men and women — not billionaires, not bankers. We get up early, we work late, and we deserve a governor who respects that grind. Jocelyn Benson is that leader. She has stood on picket lines, fought for safe working conditions, and backed union jobs when others stayed silent,” said Teamsters Local 243 President Scott Quenneville. “While Mike Duggan cozies up to corporate donors and Wall Street billionaires, Jocelyn is out there listening to nurses, drivers, warehouse workers, and everyone in between. She’s not bought. She’s not sold. And she sure as hell isn’t afraid to fight for working families. That’s why Teamsters Local 243 is proud to stand with her — because she’s always stood with us.”

“I’m incredibly grateful to have so many of the Teamsters locals and a majority of the Michigan members standing with me in my campaign to be Michigan’s next governor,” said Jocelyn Benson. “This campaign is, and always has been, about the people. It’s about making sure the people who power our state’s economy and have built their families here, can afford to live in Michigan and thrive. Where you have access to high-paying jobs, can afford to raise your family, buy a home, and retire with dignity. And where you always have a seat at the table in a Benson administration. Teamsters are always ready to fight for workplace safety and fair wages and as Governor, I’ll always be ready to fight with them. Let’s go. ”

These five Michigan Teamsters locals join a growing coalition of labor unions in support of Jocelyn Benson for Governor, including Michigan Laborers Council, UFCW Local 951 and 876, West Michigan Plumbers, PipeFitters, and HVAC Service UA Local 174, and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA.
